The owners of Stonestreet Cafe have been roasting coffee beans in Brooklyn for the past 10 years. Three months ago, Stonestreet opened its first Manhattan shop on 9th Avenue.

Location: 18th Street and 9th Avenue. Take the ACE to 14th street, exit at W 16th Street, and walk a block or so North.

Say Whaaat? There’s a window on the side of the shop for express and to-go orders! Pretty fab.

Ambiance: big band music plays at an appropriate volume in the background of the tiny, three stool seating area. It’s cute, adorned with blue bead board and seasonal decorations, but it seems like it will be quite chilly in the winter.

Price: $$ normal coffee prices. They take cash AND credit/debit cards. (!!!)

Food? Fresh sandwiches, pastries.

Tip: The Cortado (my favorite espresso drink, it’s between a Macchiato and Cappuccino) is on the menu, so this coffee connoisseur (that’s ME! Ruthie Bird) is so happy to have an amazing coffee shop so close to work! Order the speciality hot chocolate, I hear it’s divine, and make sure to add a shot of espresso to shake things up a bit. Also, my friend Patrick wants me to let you all know that Stonestreet’s hot chocolate is better than Stumptown AND Max Brenner’s.

Now you know: the Bathtub Gin speakeasy is hidden behind Stonestreet. Really. Read more about Bathtub Gin here.
